Unique Wedding Trends for 2023

At Evenio we’re all about a wedding that is personalised to your style and tastes. But that doesn’t mean we don’t stay up to date with wedding trends and we know many of our couples do too.

Trends spark our creativity and are often a starting point for the unique and personalised weddings we design for our clients. Which is why it’s fun to look at what’s trending in the world of weddings. Read on for a round up of six wedding trends for 2023 we think you’ll enjoy.

Sculptured wedding cakes

There are a lot of exciting things happening in the world of wedding cakes right now. From black to bold and colourful cakes, patterned cakes and separated tiers. If you’re getting married over the next year or so, you have a lot of options. But a key trend we’re loving is the sculptured wedding cake as seen on our Pinterest wedding cake designs board.

We think this trend is influenced by a wider desire by couples to splash out and get very creative with their wedding. When it comes to wedding cakes, this is reflected in the modern artistic vibe of sculpted cakes which feature interesting proportions and textures. The result is a statement piece that wouldn’t look out of place in a modern art gallery.

Old Hollywood style glamour

Old Hollywood is our hot trend prediction for 2023. This period of time fell between the 1930s and late 1950s. Think red carpet worthy wedding dresses with classic details and timeless appeal. Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall are your style icons for Old Hollywood style.

Inspiration for your own Old Hollywood style wedding dress can be found by looking to modern day brides such as Miranda Kerr, Ellie Goulding, Zoe Kravitz and Princess Eugenie.

Following the 2022 Met Ball in New York with the theme this year of Gilded Age, you can bet the corset trend that was so popular back in 2010s will make a comeback. Either with a form-fitting skirt or ball gown for all out glamour. We’re also loving figure hugging gowns with nude bodices and embroidered layers.

Simply embrace your inner princess to be right on style when it comes to your wedding day look.

A focus on the experience

In 2020 and 2021 we were calling this the Intimate Wedding trend and it’s still that. But over the past couple of years amid the pandemic, smaller more intimate weddings were more of a necessity than a choice and it’s this that’s shifting. Many couples like the idea of an intimate wedding that is focused on the experience for them, and their guests (if they choose to invite any).

For some couples this will be a luxe wedding with a very small, curated guest list and the best of everything – just for less people. For others it will be an elopement in a stunning location where they can devote their budget to a destination wedding experience rather than a big party with friends and family.

Dramatic floral installations

So many couples getting married over the next 12 months have been planning their wedding for years rather than months as is usually the case. And that’s given them a lot of time to absorb wedding inspiration, particularly on Pinterest and Instagram. And if there is one wedding element that consistently shows up in everyone’s feed when it comes to weddings, it’s flowers. The abundance of floral inspiration will certainly influence what we’ll be seeing at weddings well into 2023.

Dramatic floral designs, full floral arches and large cascading designs will be everywhere. For inspiration look to Paris Hilton’s ceremony floral install, which included fresh flowers to serve as the ceremony backdrop. But neutrals aren’t going anywhere either. So far this season we’re seeing couples opt for nude, blush/light pinks and toffee coloured blooms. Hand-dyed colours are also very popular, particularly when it comes to orchids and amaranth.

Stationery suites

We’re spying several exciting wedding stationery trends for 2023 including:

  • More attention to the design of save the dates and the full stationery suite
  • Vintage influences
  • Striking envelopes
  • Lots of shapes
  • Eco-friendly stationery
  • Acrylic wedding stationery

But one of the biggest trends is the increasing popularity of the wedding website.

Wedding websites have been around for a while but they really grew in popularity during the pandemic. A wedding website is a very effective tool for keeping your guests up to date with information about postponements or changes that affect the wedding at the last minute. But even as restrictions ease and weddings are less affected by last-minute changes, wedding websites remain popular.

Over the next year we think this will continue and more and more couples will use a wedding website to supplement their stationery suite and provide details such as:

  • Directions to their ‘out of town’ wedding weekend
  • Accommodation recommendations
  • Dress codes
  • Details about the after-party, next day brunch or other activities guests can enjoy over the wedding weekend
  • Gift registry information

Statement details

As a Wedding Designer and Stylist I’d argue that attention to the little details has always been a wedding trend, but it’s clear that details will become even more important to couples in 2023.

The first area of the wedding we’re seeing the influence of this trend is in place settings. Every single element placed on the table is being chosen intentionally and with the aim of elevating the design.

Additionally there’s a focus on including statement details – a striking hanging installation for example. We’re excited to take the statement trend further by getting even more creative with signage, lighting and the layering of place setting elements so we can continue to create wedding designs with that wow factor.

As much as we love each of these wedding trends for 2023, what we love most is individuality and bringing our couple’s personalities to life in their wedding design. Visit Evenio to find out more about how we can do that for your wedding day.
